Junior hockey will take on added significance this weekend in Okotoks.
The Okotoks Oilers are partnering with the Foothills Country Hospice for the Hockey Helps Hospice game on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. versus the Spruce Grove Saints to help kick-off the Heartbeat for Hospice Radiothon in support of compassionate end of life care in the community.
“We are so grateful for the support of the Okotoks Oilers and the entire community,” said Lindsey Dunham, events coordinator at Foothills Country Hospice, in a release. “Hockey brings people together and a full arena will serve as a powerful show of support for hospice care in our community.”
During the BCHL game, fans will have a number of ways to support the hospice with prizes, donations and the purchase of a limited-edition craft beer ‘Last Call Lager’ from Okotoks’ own Hub Town Brewing. Proceeds from the 50-50, on-site and online, will go to the Oilers and the hospice.
Prior to puck drop, loved ones of a former hospice resident will take part in a ceremonial puck drop to honour the impact of hospice care in the community.
Tickets can be purchased through the Okotoks Oilers’ website.
