Hinton recently went without physician coverage at its emergency room for six nights during the holidays.

Hinton recently went without a doctor in its emergency room for three nights this week and two nights last week.

"This is a shocking decision made by a government that tries to brand itself as a global climate leader."

The utility rates, which will eventually double, are meant to cover increasing water and sewer costs, due mainly to aging infrastructure, and fund a new water treatment plant.

Council has approved reduced taxation in 2025 by utilizing reserves to offset increased policing costs and part of the monetary commitment to the Hinton Health Care Foundation.

The temporary disruption is due to an inability to secure physician coverage, according to Alberta Health Services. If coverage is found, the disruption will be cancelled.

Nursing staff will still be available to provide triage, assessments and referrals to alternate emergency departments in neighbouring communities as needed.
