Seniors Society News: Valentine’s Day Tea at Alpine Summit

Those interested in attending the Seniors’ Valentine’s Day Tea are asked to RSVP by Friday (Feb. 7).

Exciting news! With the help of funding from the Red Cross and in conjunction with Alpine Summit Lodge, we are pleased to announce that the Jasper Seniors Society will be holding an upscale Seniors’ Valentine’s Day Tea at the Alpine Summit Lodge on Friday (Feb. 14) from 2 to 4 p.m. This event is free to all seniors.

Transportation from Hinton will be provided by Alpine Summit. The bus will depart from Pine Valley Lodge on Feb. 14 at 12:30 p.m. On return the bus will depart from Alpine Summit back to Pine Valley at 3:45 p.m. Please advise Ornesto at Alpine Summit if you require transportation by email to [email protected] or call him at 780-852-4881.

Please RSVP by Friday (Feb. 7) by email to: [email protected] or by text to Janis at 780-931-6787. Capacity is limited to 70 due to the size of the venue.

Come to Bingo Night for a fun evening on Thursday (Feb. 6) at 6:30 p.m. at the Jasper Municipal Library downstairs.

There will be snacks, refreshments and exciting prizes for our winners! Bring a friend and have some fun!

Come to the new “Healing through Movement” Course being offered by Gilly Thomas at the Seniors’ Lounge starting on Wednesday (Feb. 12) at 10:30 a.m. and continuing on the 19th and 26th. Try this out with a friend. Special Seniors’ discount rates apply or by donation. This is gentle guided movement with awareness to decrease tension and increase range of motion. For more details you can email [email protected]

Check out Monday Craft-ernoons at the Habitat for the Arts. Join Donna on the 2nd and 4th Mondays in February at 1 p.m. for a couple of hours dedicated to working on “whatever you’re creating.” Bring your materials – tables, tea and a welcoming space are ready for you!

There are two courses being offered by Jasper Physiotherapy and Health Centre you may be interested in.

It's never too late to feel more flexible, balanced, and comfortable in your body! Welcome to Mobility Mondays where we help you stretch, strengthen, and move with ease. Join Meg Moll, Kinesiologist at Jasper Physiotherapy, to explore a series of movements and stretches to help limber you up and take on the upcoming week. Running from Feb. 17 to May, 2025 – 7 p.m. start on Monday evenings at Jasper Physiotherapy and Health Centre. Please bring your own yoga mat and wear your comfiest clothes to move in. 

By donation only with proceeds going back into community programming and other fitness classes. 

Patricia Koss is an experienced nutrition professional with a master’s degree in nutrition.

Patricia is hosting a five-session series at Jasper Physiotherapy and Health Centre every Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. starting Feb. 26 and ending March 26. The topics are below: 

  • Feb. 26: Addressing the Roots of Chronic Health Challenges: An Introduction to Functional Nutrition
  • Mar. 5: Gut Health: Feed the Good Guys, Starve the Bad Guys!
  • Mar. 12: Turning Down the Heat on Inflammation
  • Mar. 19: Blood Sugar Control: Not Just for Diabetics!
  • Mar. 26: More Bang for your Buck: The Power of Nutrient Density

Get started with Session 1 for $25, then pick any of the other sessions for $25 each, or save by signing up for all four remaining sessions for $80. 

Check out the new Jasper-Yellowhead Museum and Archives exhibit titled Jasper – As It Was, which runs to March 30. Enjoy the incredible photography featuring the work of renowned photojournalist Harry Rowed from 1939 to the 1970s. Museum hours: 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Thursday through Sunday.

The museum accepts all refundables at the Bottle Bin behind the museum and thanks you for your donation.

Thai Chi – FREE Tuesdays 12 to 1 p.m. at the Activity Centre multi-purpose hall. New session has just started, so this is a perfect time to join if you are new and want to try it out! 

As always, the Library has many events free for all including “From the Stacks” on Feb. 6th and Book Club on Feb. 27. Pick up your copy today of “this Summer Will Be Different” by Carley Fortune.

Our next Seniors’ Society meeting will be Monday (Feb. 10) at 1:30 p.m. at the Seniors’ Lounge.
