Welcome to your Jasper Seniors Society News column, which appears every two weeks courtesy of the Jasper Fitzhugh.
We hope you have been enjoying the many activities throughout Seniors’ Week. You can still attend the library's "From the stacks” today, Thursday, June 6 at 1:30 p.m. with local authors. Bring a friend and play bingo at the Alpine Lodge at 3 p.m. on Friday, June 7 and join the Lodge once again for a Grade 8 Band performance on Saturday, June 8 at 10 a.m.
Volunteers are needed for the annual Gran Fondo bike race being held on Saturday, June 8. If you can help out either in town or on a station along the bike routes, please contact Janice Yeaman by email to [email protected] or Ann Thomas at 780-883-0334. At the end of your shift, enjoy a free burger and drink/beer! The museum is the charity of choice.
The Legion has generously set up a 50/50 draw as a fundraiser for the new generator for the Alpine Summit Lodge. We are hoping for over $20,000 and half the proceeds will go to the winner and the other half will go to Alpine Summit Seniors Lodge for the purchase of our generator.
We appreciate all your support. Please buy your tickets and spread the word for this great project for our seniors and the community of Jasper. Please see the link where you can purchase your tickets. Thank you! https://www.rafflebox.ca/raffle/jasperlegion31
The Jasper Museum Showcase Gallery continues to host "From the Wilds of Jasper," which is a combination art/photography exhibit by Wes and Johane. This exhibit is open until Sunday, June 9.
The museum is open daily now from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Remember to browse the gift shop for unique gifts.
A reminder that the museum welcomes all refundables given to Sheila’s Bottle Bin. See the colourful bin behind the museum in the parking lot by the trailer. Thank you!
We are planning an Emergency Preparedness Fire Session for Thursday June 13 at 3:30 p.m. at the Seniors’ Lounge. Fire Chief Mathew Conte is available (assuming he is not called out to an emergency) and Lisa Riddell will be there from community development who has been highly involved in the emergency preparedness planning. Please mark the date down as it will be very informative. This is for all seniors.
Our annual picnic is slated for 5 p.m. on Monday, June 24 at the McCready Centre. All are welcome. Please RSVP to us by email to by Monday, June 17 at [email protected] or text to Janis at 780-931-6787.
The Whitecourt seniors have expressed their appreciation for our welcome at the Spring Dinner. They, in turn would like to invite us to a dinner with entertainment in Whitecourt on Sept. 18. This would mean hiring a bus and staying overnight. We could also plan another activity during that time. We will discuss this at our June 10 meeting, but if anyone is interested in participating, please send us an email soon.
Support the society that supports you! Please choose Jasper Seniors Society as the donation recipient at TGP.
Anyone over 55 years of age can join the society for a nominal $10 annual fee and receive newsletters and invitations to outings and functions throughout the year. The objectives of the society, in part, are to promote the interests of seniors as well as to coordinate the services available to seniors in the community. The society manages and maintains a Seniors’ Lounge in the Activity Centre where our monthly meetings take place on the second Monday of each month.
Our next meeting will be on Monday, June 10 at 1:30 p.m. at the Seniors’ Lounge at the Jasper Activity Centre.
All seniors are welcome to attend and see what we are about. You can then decide if membership will be a benefit to you. If you have any ideas or wish to voice any concerns, please feel free to email to [email protected].
Let us know how we can make everyday living better for all seniors in Jasper!
