Welcome to your Jasper Seniors Society News column, which appears every two weeks courtesy of The Jasper Fitzhugh.
The Museum’s Spring Outing will be on Wednesday, May 29 at the Athabasca Picnic Area (Jasper Airfield) from 2:30 to 5 p.m. For more information, you can call the Museum at 780-852-3013. A reminder that the Museum welcomes all refundables given to Sheila’s Bottle Bin which is behind the Museum in the parking lot. Thank you!
There are many activities planned for Seniors’ Week which runs from June 1 to 8. We hope you will join in these events.
Kicking off the week is a barbecue fundraiser for the Alpine Summit Lodge generator. Please come to the Alpine Lodge between noon and 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, for a delicious barbecue lunch by donation. There will be a concert at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 3 at the Alpine Lodge. On Tuesday, you can drop in for Tea & Treasures at the Museum from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. The Maligne Lake Boat Cruise will depart at 1 p.m. on Tuesday by bus. Seniors Society membership is required for this trip.
On Wednesday, come see the Silly Walking Parade at the Alpine Lodge and Pine Grove Manor at 1:10 p.m. and then you can join the Tea Party at the Activity Centre courtesy of the Municipality of Jasper at 2 p.m.
The Library's "From the stacks" date is Thursday, June 6, at 1:30 p.m. and is in celebration of seniors with local authors. Play Bingo at the Alpine Lodge at 3 p.m. on Friday, June 7 and join the Lodge once again for a Grade 8 Band performance on Saturday, June 8 at 10 a.m.
We hope you have reserved your seat for the Boat Cruise at Maligne Lake. We thank PURSUIT for this complimentary Seniors’ Trip as well as Sun Dog Tour Co. and The Evergreens Foundation for the free transportation by way of the Alpine Traveller Bus.
Mark your calendars for the 56th Annual United Church Plant Sale happening on Thursday, May 30, Friday, May 31 and Saturday, June 1. If you wish a Gift Certificate for anyone, please contact Ann at 780-883-0334.Volunteers are needed for the Annual Gran Fondo Bike Race being held on Saturday, June 8. If you can help out either in town or on a station along the bike routes, please contact Janice Yeaman by email to [email protected] or Ann Thomas at 780-883-0334. At the end of your shift enjoy a free Burger and Drink/Beer! The Museum is the charity of choice.
The Legion has generously set up a 50/50 draw as a fundraiser for the new generator for the Alpine Summit Lodge. We are hoping for over $20,000 and half the proceeds will go to the winner and the other half will go to Alpine Summit Seniors Lodge for the purchase of our generator.

Anyone over 55 years of age can join the Society for a nominal $10 annual fee and receive newsletters and invitations to outings and functions throughout the year. The objectives of the Society, in part, are to promote the interests of seniors as well as to coordinate the services available to seniors in the community. The Society manages and maintains a Seniors’ Lounge in the Activity Centre where our monthly meetings take place on the second Monday of each month.
Our next meeting will be on Monday, June 10, at 1:30 p.m. at the Seniors’ Lounge at the Jasper Activity Centre.
