VIEN, Margaret "Carol" - October 17th, 1951 - November 23rd, 2023

Musician and retired elementary school teacher Margaret “Carol” Vien’s love of life did not come to an end with her death.

Carol passed away on November 23rd, 2023, at the age of 72 after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honour her by living their lives to the fullest.

Carol was born October 17th, 1951, in Lindsay, Ontario to Howard and Margaret Mills, sister to Kathy Mason (Perry) and Tom Mills (Cathy).

Carol left Lindsay for Windsor, Ontario where she pursued multiple degrees and certificates in psychology and teaching. Carol’s pride was in her students, and she shared her passion for learning with thousands over the years.

Carol married the love of her life, Lawrence Vien, in 1972. They started their married life in various National Parks across Ontario, eventually settling at Pukaskwa in Marathon, Ontario with their young children Marc and Laura. Her time in Marathon blossomed many friendships that stayed with her throughout her entire life. Carol’s compassion and kindness were exemplified by her many years of community service including with the United Church. She shared her love of music with friends and community through the organization of entertainment series, house concerts and playing at Sunday Service. After their retirement, Larry and Carol moved to Jasper, AB to be closer to their grandchildren. Carol was an active member of the community and touched many lives in her time there. Carol found great happiness in teaching piano lessons and being the pianist for the United Church. Her warm personality was contagious to everyone she met. She found lasting friendships in her aquafit classes, book club, Bridge nights and Folk Fest committee.

The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Carol. She loved visits with friends over a coffee or glass of wine and trips to see family and friends across the country. She loved to adventure and explore lakes and trails and found beauty in everything. Carol is survived by her husband Larry, son Marc, daughter-in-law Danielle, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and the three greatest joys of her life, her grandchildren Parker, Rowan and Samuel.

Our family is grateful for the love and support received from the community of Jasper and friends and family across the country. A special thank you to Dr. Wilson, Dr. Unsworth, Homecare, and all the staff at Seton -Jasper Healthcare Centre for the care and compassion given to Carol. Thank you for surrounding us with love during this difficult time.

Details for a celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
