SHUTIAK, Barry Steven - Deceased April 27th, 2023
Barry Steven Shutiak passed away unexpectedly on April 27th, 2023 in Hinton, Alberta.
Left behind to mourn his passing and celebrate his life are Suzanne Shutiak (nee Thorburn), his loving wife of 27 years and their 2 children Brandon & Connor, his sisters Barb (Warren), Gail (Mark), Giselle (Todd), his extended family Marcella, Mike, Scott, Lisa (Alex), numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.
Barry was predeceased by his father Steve in 2011 and his mother Stephanie in 2021.
Born in Saskatoon, Barry (Shoots) grew up playing goal in hockey, cheering for the Boston Bruins and his #4 Bobby Orr and the Oakland A’s, and knowing he would one day follow in his father's and uncle's footsteps and join the Canadian National Railway. Barry’s 35 plus years with CN had him working many terminals starting in Saskatchewan and ending in Jasper where he wore many hats in his different roles, but his dedication, expertise, and generosity won him many lifelong friendships throughout his career.
Barry moved to Jasper in the 1980s and in 1994 he met the love of his life, Suzanne and they started raising their family. He passed along his love of hockey and baseball to his two boys, and he coached them for many years and was their most avid fan. Barry was a wonderful father, a loving husband, the best brother ever and a loyal friend who enriched the lives of so many who were privileged to know him.
His thoughtfulness, kindness, compassion, dry sense of humour and one-liners will be missed.
"When you’re young, you don’t realize the sacrifices that people are making for you." — Bobby Orr
