LANG, Ingeborg Katharina (nee Guettes) - November 30th, 1934  – May 4th, 2024

Born Remagen, Unkelbach, Germany November 30th, 1934

Died Jasper, Alberta, Canada May 4th 2024. Aged 89 years.

It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Inge Lang of Jasper.

Inge grew up in Germany and emigrated to Canada in 1959 with her husband Joe Lang. They settled first in Edmonton and moved to Jasper in 1966.

A professional dressmaker, Inge ran a home-based sewing business in both Edmonton and Jasper, creating stylish custom designs for many delighted clients.

A devoted wife and mother, Inge balanced her work with life as a full-time homemaker, and she and Joe created a loving, lively and active home for their family. Life with them was filled with outdoor pursuits from hiking, climbing and camping to canoeing and swimming, in Jasper, their farm near McBride and on yearly holidays all over Alberta and British Columbia. When Joe learned to windsurf at age 50, they spent a month every year in Kailua, Oahu.

Inge loved nature, the mountains and all living things. Her houses in Edmonton and Jasper were home to a long procession of cats and one very special dog, Woolly. Inge hiked, camped and skied, and in later years enjoyed daily walks with Joe around all the popular Jasper sites. Together they explored a multitude of hidden gems in their 50 plus years of rambling in the park.

A great lover of music and books, Inge instilled those passions in all her family. A talented gardener, she was particularly adept with house plants, and had an amazing ability to make anything thrive and bloom. She was also an accomplished baker and is still remembered for her apple pies and cakes, which she continued to bake even when her vision was nearly gone.

She volunteered for many years with the Ladies Auxiliary at Seton Jasper Hospital, and her colourful hand-knitted wool socks are cherished in many Jasper households to this day.

Inge was a person who always put others ahead of herself, and exemplified the word “ladylike”. Always beautifully dressed, she had an infectious laugh, loved her family and many friends and knew how to make the most of every day.

Inge was predeceased by her husband Joe in 2022, and leaves behind her children Gabriela Krause (Darwin), Elisabeth Taylor (Ian) and Lorenz Lang (Debra) and grandchildren Amanda and Stephanie Krause. In Germany, she is survived by her sister Annemi Muench (Heinrich) and nephews Jurgen Muench (Sabine) and Detlef Muench (Katje).

Heartfelt gratitude goes to all the physicians and staff at Seton Jasper Hospital and to the Home Care “Angels” who looked after Inge and Joe so well. Also, to all the staff at the Alpine Summit Senior’s Lodge and especially the staff at DAL who gave such compassionate and loving care in Inge’s last weeks.

Inge loved flowers, but a gift in her memory can also be made to the Generator Fund at Alpine Summit Senior’s Lodge, the CNIB, or the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society.

A funeral service will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church (300 Bonhomme Street) in Jasper on Monday, May 20, 2024 at 11 a.m. Please join us in celebrating the life of Inge K. Lang. Inge loved the colour pink, so feel free to wear some pink when attending if you wish.
