FORABOSCO, Giobatta (John) - August 8, 1935 to December 16, 2022
John Forabosco moved to Canada, the land of opportunity, in 1956 with $35 in his pocket. Although he did not intend to stay long, he met the love of his life in Jasper, Josina de Kock, who had immigrated from The Netherlands. They married on February 6, 1960, and together they built a beautiful life both in family and work. John worked, and he worked hard his whole life! His first job was as a dishwasher at the Astoria hotel, then he moved on to a multitude of jobs: truck driver for Cy Whitfield, Parks Canada, CN Rail and others. He was a gifted stone mason and much of his work can still be seen around town: in the Catholic church, Totems Ski Shop, Bear Hill Lodge, Marmot Basin plus many fireplaces and stonework throughout homes and businesses in Jasper. Being an independent businessperson was his dream; in 1968 John had an opportunity to do just that. He and his family moved to Whitecourt, AB to take over operation of the Imperial Oil bulk service station. In 1973 the opportunity came up for John and Josie to purchase Roche Bonhomme Bungalows and return to their beloved Jasper. In 1977 they purchased Jasper House Bungalows and continued to build their legacy. In 1990 tragedy stuck and John was severely burned in an explosion while adding new cabins to Jasper House Bungalows. He survived and fought hard to get back to his wife and family. Over his 60 + years in Jasper, John was very involved in the community and a great supporter of many town initiatives
He will be greatly missed.
