Anne (Hunka) Mary Terrill

3

It is with heavy hearts we announce that in the early morning of Sunday, August 11, 2024, at the age of 93, Anne (Hunka) Mary Terrill of Jasper, Alberta, passed away peacefully in the Hinton Healthcare Centre, surrounded by family.

Born January 21, 1931, in Lac La Biche, Alberta, to Victoria and Steven Horkoff, along with her five sisters and one brother; Laura, Elma, Evelyn, Florence, Sonny and Velma, Anne always treasured family. She grew up in Boyle, Alberta and moved to Jasper, Alberta, in the early 1950’s where she settled and created her own legacy for the next 70+ years. Her legacy consists of her four children, eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren, all of which were her pride and joy, though Anne’s proudest accomplishment and true passion was being a grandmother (nana/neaner) and great grandmother.

In her younger years, Anne worked for AGT as a telephone operator and that skill carried through when she moved to Jasper and worked front desk at both the Athabasca and Whistler hotels as a switchboard operator. She then worked as office manager for Super A Foods and retired after 28 years. In her retirement years that followed she ran a concession in the log cabin at Centennial Park, worked at Pine Cones & Pussy Willows and Rocky Bear Gifts, and volunteered at the Jasper United Church thrift store well into her 80’s, where she immensely enjoyed the company of all that she worked for and with. Anne loved travelling the globe, she was active, an avid golfer, enjoyed curling and participated in many ladies’ bonspiels, loved playing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and spinning the slots. Her heart was the fullest when she was able to host her family for meals. She always had an open-door policy and was even known to host “after hours” late night/early morning grilled cheese snacks for her grandchildren and their friends.

Anne was predeceased by her parents as well as her two sisters; Elma and Evelyn and a baby brother; Sonny. Left to cherish her memory are her three sisters; Laura, Florence and Velma (Nick), her four children; Timothy (Lynne), Randy (Glenys), Melody and Cory (Jen), her eight grandchildren; Megan (Kevin), Sean (Isabelle), Danny (Kate), Andrea (Derek), Chelsea (Cutter), Lauren (Johnny), Kimberly (Andrew) and Tessa (Scott) and her five great grandchildren; Taliah, Ollie, Indie, Days and Hudson.

A service will be held in Jasper in the future and will be announced at a later date. The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to the Jasper United Church in Anne’s memory. Although Anne was a practising Catholic, in light of the recent devastation that Jasper has undergone with the 2024 fire in the Town of Jasper, the family wishes to give back to the United Church which was taken by the fire. Anne spent much of her retired life working at the United Church thrift store and it brought her much joy. Should you wish to make a donation to the Jasper United Church, please do so by way of etransfer to [email protected] with note “In memory of Anne Terrill”.

Anne was a daughter, sister, aunt, mom, nana and friend to many. Her memory will forever be in our hearts.

Her legacy lives on… “Infinite baby kisses” and “see you in the funnies”.
