OOAA hosts SAIT and Medicine Hat College in ACAC women's hockey showdown

Hockey enthusiasts were treated to an old-fashioned goaltender's duel in a showcase of the women's college game Sunday in Okotoks.

The SAIT Trojans scored in the final two minutes of regulation to skate to a 1-0 win over the Medicine Hat College Rattlers in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Women's Hockey Showdown Sunday evening at Okotoks' Viking Rentals Centre.

The game, co-hosted by SAIT along with the Okotoks Minor Hockey Association and Okotoks Oilers Athletic Association, featured local female hockey representation from start to finish with the OMHA U11 A girls taking part in the pre-game warm up festivities, the U9 girls taking part in the first intermission scrimmage and Rocky Mountain U15 AA Raiders girls competing in the shoot-to-win contest after 40 minutes.

Trojans forward Sydney Hollman, SAIT's player of the game, notched the game-winning tally with just 1:59 left in the third period. SAIT netminder Kaylin Schellenberg made 24 saves to earn the shutout while Rattlers netminder Jessika Charron was the Medicine Hat player of the game with 35 saves on the night.

The Trojans are coached by Okotokian Amanda McLeod, the third-year bench boss for the team, and feature two Okotoks players in blueliner Kaylan Easson and forward Alex Baumbach.
