The Town of Hinton recently purchased additional land at the Hinton Golf Course.

All holes at the Hinton Golf Course are now owned or controlled by the Town of Hinton following a recent purchase of additional land.

On Jan. 21, the Town acquired the land containing golf holes 1, 2 and part of 3 from Qualico Developments West for $409,684.24.

“The result of this purchase is that all holes are now owned or controlled by the Town and not a private entity,” the Town stated in a March 13 news release.

The 18-hole golf course occupies several parcels of land that are owned by the Town, the Alberta government and Qualico Developments West. Because the golf fairways cross over property lines, assessment management and financial planning are more challenging for the Town.

In November 2020, Hinton council directed Town administration to bring a report back outlining options for land consolidation at the golf course.

Town spokesperson Natasha Buck said in an email that the recent purchase will allow the Town “to develop short- and long-term financial forecasts/models and facilitate any future improvements and enhancements that could compliment the existing town-owned asset.”

“The subject lands at present are not being planned for development other than maintaining the current golf holes,” Buck added.

There are also plans for a teaching hotel, known as the Bliss of Hinton, adjacent to the golf course, although the project has received pushback over its potential impact on the golf course.
