St. Albert MLA Marie Renaud says she will support Edmonton -- Whitemud MLA Rakhi Pancholi in the NDP leadership race.
Pancholi announced her candidacy this morning in a video on social media.
The video features a clip of Pancholi and Renaud crossing Saint Anne Street towards St. Albert Place.
In an Instagram post, Renaud wrote, "I am thrilled to support my exceptional friend ... as she showcases her abilities to all Albertans."
"I have a lot of affection for everybody in my caucus," Renaud told the Gazette. "So it was a really difficult decision ... I've seen firsthand how [Pancholi] operates, how she works, how she thinks, her position on legislation, and it's always the same. It's always very positive. It's always focused on the future. It's bright, and it's different."
Renaud described Pancholi as "hard working" and said Pancholi has many "forward-thinking" ideas, but could not yet provide any details on what Pancholi's platform will look like.
Pancholi is the second candidate to enter the race, following Kathleen Ganley MLA for Calgary – Mountain View, who declared her candidacy earlier this week.
