We hope all of you had a relaxing holiday break, but we are back in action again and here is our latest news.

Community Dinners are back! Be sure to mark your calendar for every Sunday for a delicious meal prepared by different hospitality partners. Please note that seniors are welcomed at 5 p.m. for early entry along with families with children.

Our Jasper Museum invites you to come to the opening reception of “Jasper: As It Was” on Friday [Jan. 24] at 6 p.m. and enjoy the exhibit featuring the Jasper work of renowned photojournalist Harry Rowed from 1939 to the 1970s, which is open to March 30. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Sunday.

If you like working crafts and people, here is an invitation to all from Habitat for the Arts…

Join Donna on the second and fourth Mondays in January and February at 1 p.m. for a couple of hours dedicated to working on “whatever you’re creating.” Bring your materials – tables, tea and a welcoming space are ready for you!

Join a Movie Night at the library downstairs on Thursday [Jan. 23] at 6:30 p.m.

If you are a fan of curling, there are some events that are coming you may be interested in.

Kevin Martin is joining us for two days of events including a Stick Curling Clinic on Friday (Jan. 24) from 11 a.m. to noon at the curling rink at a cost of $20 for locals. There is also a banquet on Friday (Jan. 24) at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $65 for seniors. If anyone has questions or wants to register, they can email the curling club at [email protected]

Monday, Jan. 20, 3:30-5 p.m. – Tech Time at the Seniors Society Lounge. Bring you tech device (phone, tablet, laptop, etc.) and any questions you have to our friendly teen tech experts.

Tuesday, Jan. 28, 1:30 p.m. – Frauds and Scams Awareness Presentation at Community Outreach Services (627 Patricia Street).

Thai Chi – FREE Tuesdays 12 to 1 p.m. at the Activity Centre muliti-purpose hall. New session has just started, so this is a perfect time to join if you are new and want to try it out.

Kacie at Community Outreach is assessing interest in the “Not Falling for You” falls prevention and exercise program. This is a weekly peer led falls prevention class for individuals living at home aged 50 and older. If you are interested in learning more, participating in the program as a leader or as a participant, please contact Kacie at [email protected] 780-931-3364. Our next Seniors’ Society meeting will be Monday [Feb. 10] at 1:30 p.m. at the Seniors’ Lounge. 

Please feel welcome to attend and find out what your Executive is doing for all the seniors in Jasper.

Keep your calendar open for Friday [Feb. 14] as we are organizing a Seniors' Valentine’s Day Tea.

A reminder that the Alpine Traveller Bus makes Hinton trips on the first and second Thursday of the month. 

Jasper Town trips are on the 1st and 3rd Friday of the month. Call 780-931-9800 to book a trip.

This invaluable service is open to all Jasperites!

Just a reminder to please choose the Jasper Seniors Society as the donation recipient at TGP when shopping. We are thankful that we receive a cheque for these proceeds win a regular basis. Please note on every third Wednesday of the month TGP offers seniors a 15 per cent discount on regularly priced items after a $50 purchase.

Also, please feel free to share this newsletter with your friends and neighbours and remind them that they can add their name to our membership list anytime and receive these newsletters weekly with no membership fee being requested this year.
