Kevin Lazzari | Special to the Fitzhugh
I took a chance and watched Percy Vs Goliath, because the film is based on a true story. There is something about a movie that is based on facts that always piques my interest. I was especially intrigued to find a movie based on a farmer from Saskatchewan. The added bonus is Christopher Walken is the actor portraying the central character. Who better than Walken to play a Canadian farmer?
The story follows Percy Schmeiser going up against Monsanto, because he had genetically modified seeds in his crop that he never purchased. His argument is the seeds were never planted intentionally. The battle between an independent farmer and Monsanto proves one person can make a difference. Percy set a legal precedent with the supreme court that changed the lives of farmers around the world. Schmieser became a hero to anyone involved in the fight against genetically modified organisms (GMO).
This movie is one that will fly under everyone's radar, because it is a Canadian film. The film will appeal to a certain viewer and anyone who is interested in our food production. If you are against GMOs, this film is for you.
