Conservative incumbent Gerald Soroka has won a second term as the member of Parliament for the Yellowhead riding, which includes the town of Jasper.
Soroka was one of six candidates in this riding during the federal election on Sept. 20.
As of Sept. 21, Soroka earned 66.2 per cent of the vote with 234 of 235 polls reporting. That is 32,619 out of 49,266 valid votes.
“Thank you, Yellowhead, for your support!” Soroka wrote in a Facebook post.
“It’s an honour to be re-elected to serve as your Member of Parliament, I’m looking forward to getting back to work on your behalf.”
Nationally, the Liberals won enough seats for a government but failed to earn a majority.
Yellowhead, a large riding that stretches as far as Grande Cache, Rocky Mountain House and Caroline, has been a Conservative riding for 19 years.
The seat was held by Conservative MP Jim Eglinski from 2014, but he did not seek re-election in the 2019 federal election.
Soroka campaigned across the riding in 2019 and won 82 per cent of the Yellowhead vote.
Soroka is a third-generation Yellowhead County resident who lives on a farm north of Evansburg on the original homestead his grandparents settled in 1930.
He served almost 12 years as the mayor of Yellowhead County and has served as the vice president and president of the West Central Forage Association, as well as the vice president of the Alberta Forage Council.
