The Santa Train rolled through the mountains on Dec. 6 much to the delight of all the children onboard eagerly awaiting the arrival of the big guy himself.

As the train chugged along, the cars packed with kids were abuzz with anticipation of jolly ol’ St. Nick appearing at any moment.

After passing into the Geikie Tunnel, the train fell into darkness, and the cars lowered ever so slightly as something, or someone, boarded the train.

Within moments the childrens’ excitement could no longer be contained as Santa Claus himself came strolling down the aisle and his loving “ho, ho, ho” filled the air with the warmth and joy of the holiday season.

The annual event, which is extremely popular among children and families in Jasper, sold out in minutes, including a second train car that was added by Via Rail due to demand.

The fundraising event was hosted by Santas Anonymous Jasper and supported by the Jasper Community Team Society, Via Rail and CN Rail.

Editor's note: The Santa Train was on Dec. 6, not Dec. 8 as originally reported.

Julie Des Becquets, Chloe Bazin and Susan McCarthy are feeling the holiday spirit as they prepare to board the Santa Train.
