Marie-France Miron and others have a peaceful demonstration planned for June 9.

The group will gather on the Visitor Information Centre lawn at 11 a.m.

Miron, who founded SaveJasperNoFire on Facebook, was offered a private meeting with Jasper National Park superintendent Alan Fehr to talk about what Parks Canada has done and plans to do to mitigate the risk of wildfire earlier this week. She countered with a request for a public information session on same.

A joint session between the municipality, Parks and other agencies was held at the Jasper fire hall on May 7. The subject was FireSmarting private properties and evacuation preparation.

Miron indicated in an email Friday Fehr had not responded to her request.

"In Canada, we have the constitutional right to freely express our opinions and to speak our minds," she wrote. "We are also free to participate in a peaceful demonstration which includes the right to protest against a government action or institution."
