VIA Rail to resume Jasper to Prince George and Prince Rupert service in July

VIA Rail will resume its service between Jasper and Prince Rupert in July, with one round trip per week.

Starting July 5, the train from Jasper to Prince George will run on Sundays and from Prince George to Prince Rupert on Mondays.

The Prince Rupert to Prince George train will run every Wednesday and the Prince George to Jasper will run on Thursdays.

VIA Rail warned that this information is subject to change without notice.

VIA said resumption of service on this route will take place "with the utmost consideration for the safety and health of our passengers and employees". 

The number of bookable seats on trains has been limited in order to provide passengers physical distancing space when travelling - and touring class will not be available.

Passengers will not be allowed to board trains if they are experiencing symptoms similar to a cold or flu (fever, cough, difficulty breathing) or if they have been denied boarding for travel in the last 14 days due to medical reasons related to COVID-19.

And all passengers are recommended to wear a non-medical mask or face covering when travelling on its trains and when it is impossible to respect a distance of two metres with others.

VIA Rail's Canadian service - which runs through Jasper from Toronto to Vancouver and back - is still cancelled until November 1.

And the Rocky Mountaineer is suspended until July 31.
