It was a record first day for Jasper National Park camping reservations on Tuesday.
Reservations opened for frontcountry camping in Jasper on January 7.
There were 11,431 bookings on the first day of reservations, breaking the previous record set in 2018 by 20 per cent.
"Parks Canada would like to thank Canadians for their continued enthusiasm about camping in Jasper National Park," said a representative in a press release.
"What makes this more impressive is that the record was set despite the closure of Whistlers Campground for reconstruction in 2020 which takes more than 750 campsites a day out of the available inventory."
It is not too late to reserve a campsite as there are still spaces in most campgrounds throughout the summer months.
And if the wilderness experience is more your thing, reservations for backcountry campgrounds open January 22 at 8 a.m.
Jasper National Park has more than 80 backcountry campgrounds but Parks Canada warned that areas like Maligne Lake, the Skyline Trail and the Brazeau Loop book up extremely quickly so reservations are a must.
