The Buffalo Party of Alberta recently changed its name to the Republican Party of Alberta.

Republican candidates could be on the ballot for the next provincial election in Alberta, after a name change by an existing conservative party.

The Buffalo Party of Alberta has changed its name to the Republican Party of Alberta. The change took effect in February, Elections Alberta said.

Andrew Jacobson is listed as the party’s interim leader, according to Elections Alberta.

Jacobson ran for a seat in Edmonton-Strathcona as the Buffalo Party's lone candidate during the 2023 provincial election.

The Buffalo Party of Alberta formed in 2022, with Calgarian John Molberg as leader and a platform to seek more autonomy for Alberta and to decentralize government decision making.
