The Icefields Parkway could see rolling closures between Parker Ridge and Saskatchewan Crossing on Friday, March 3, starting 10 a.m. with delays of up to two hours.
Parks Canada warned that early spring conditions can now be expected for the Icefields Parkway (Highway 93) south of the Jasper townsite and Maligne Lake Road.
"This typically means localized, intense snowfall events, warm afternoon sun, and the possibility of rain or freezing rain at all elevations," Parks Canada stated.
"These conditions increase avalanche hazard and the need for periodic road closures or delays."
The rolling closures will allow for avalanche control, reducing the likelihood of uncontrolled avalanches reaching the road.
A full reopening is anticipated at 5 p.m. Friday with high confidence.
