New trail closures in Jasper National Park as loggers advance on Pyramid Bench

Starting Oct. 24 a new set of trails on the Pyramid Bench will be closed due to logging.

All trail 8s including the Cabin Lake fire road, sections of trails 3 and 3g and the Cottonwood Slough parking lot (P4) are closed to humans.

Also, trail users will not be able to use the section of trail 2 and 15 between the fire road and Cottonwood Slough parking lot until work is completed in this section. Smoke will be visible at times as the contractor, Canfor, burns brush as it works through the winter.

The work is intended to create a wider fire break west of the Jasper townsite.

The area between Cottonwood Slough and Cabin Creek will likely be closed for the duration of the project.

Tree removals are expected to begin south of Cabin Creek in December, and then continue up towards Patricia Lake in January and February, so additional trail closures will be issued as work progresses, according to Jasper National Park.

Drivers can expect traffic delays on Pyramid Lake Road as heavy equipment is turning on and off the road. Traffic control will be in place when work is happening adjacent to the road
