Miette Hot Springs and Miette Hot Springs Bungalows will be welcoming visitors once again starting Sept. 1.

The hot springs and bungalows both closed unexpectedly on June 19 following a freak snowstorm that caused a mudslide, hundreds of downed trees and a significant washout that closed Miette Road.

The road will be open by Aug. 31, although a section of the road will be limited to single-lane alternating traffic controlled by traffic lights.

Drivers are asked to reduce speed, expect short delays and follow the directions of traffic control equipment.

“The washout on Miette Road was on a particularly steep section which made ensuring safe mitigation measures challenging,” Parks Canada stated.

“The washed-out slope has been deemed stable by geotechnical engineers with rerouting to allow for single-lane alternating traffic.”

“Parks Canada is working on a longer-term solution that will establish a permanent realignment of the road,” it added.

Miette Hot Springs will be open 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. from Sept. 1 to 4, and 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. daily from Sept. 5 to Oct. 9, hours subject to change.

The hot springs will close for the season on Oct. 9 and reopen in May 2024.
