The Icefields Parkway (Highway 93) will be closed to motorists between Athabasca Falls and Saskatchewan River Crossing beginning Tuesday at 3 p.m. until Friday at 4 p.m.
As much as much as 70 centimeters of snow is forecasted to fall from Tuesday to Friday.
The significant snowfall is expected to be accompanied by strong winds, blowing and drifting snow.
Parks Canada says the closure will allow for avalanche control to take place.
Visitors will still have access to the day-use area at Athabasca Falls.
The highway may also be opened sooner if conditions allow and the snowfall is less than expected.
Drivers are asked to plan their trip and check 511.alberta.ca for current road conditions.
