The Jasper Food Bank is taking the summer off.

Clients of the Jasper Food Bank will hopefully not need its services for two months.

The social service agency is planning to go on temporary hiatus at the end of this month.

“The Jasper Food Bank recently announced has made the difficult decision to close for July and August this year,” read the organization’s announcement on social media late last week.

“After a record-breaking winter season, we hope that most people have more hours and work over these busy months.”

Direct comment from a food bank representative was not available by press time.

The announcement indicated that donations would still be collected to restock its shelves over the summer months.

This is the first time that the Jasper is taking this measure. In past years, the Banff Food Bank has frequently closed for the summer. Last year, it closed from July until the beginning of October.

The Jasper Food Bank said that it would reopen on Sept. 5. It thanked everyone for their support and understanding.

In case of emergencies during this time, people are asked to contact the food bank’s manager at 780-931-5375.

In the meantime, people can participate in the Jasper Food Recovery Program. It offers food by donation to those that come to the Anglican Church Hall every Monday and Friday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

The community fridge, located in the Jasper Activity Centre, is also available by donation. It is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Further details can be offered by calling the Jasper Food Recovery Program at 780-852-9766 or by email at [email protected].
