The Fitzhugh is the one making the news this week.
As of October 2023, Jasper’s local newspaper will be published by St. Albert-based Great West Media.
Great West Media is a family-run company with over 60 years of experience in the local news business.
Our editorial staff will remain the same, and we will endeavour to offer the same quality of reporting that the community has become accustomed to.
With Great West Media’s resources, our paper will be able to continue publishing in a difficult and shifting media environment.
One of our new sister newspapers will be the Rocky Mountain Outlook, which is located down Highway 93 in Banff and Canmore.
The Rocky Mountain Outlook has been covering news and community events in the Bow Valley since 2001.
The paper has an estimated print readership of over 80,000 per month and an online audience of 179,689 readers per month over the summer of 2023.
Both our publications look forward to working together on bringing you the latest news on the Canadian Rockies and the communities within them.
You may also notice our paper was resized to match our company’s other publications.
We will also review our layout and see how we can further update the look of our newspaper and give the best reading experience possible for Jasper and the surrounding region.
Finally, we would like to acknowledge the hard work of our previous owner, Aberdeen Publishing, and president Robert Doull.
The Fitzhugh would not have been possible without his support and guiding hand.
Great West Media will now continue this proud tradition of breaking news and sharing stories in the small mountain town of Jasper.
