RE: Free speech under attack in wake of Israel-Gaza conflict
Thank you, Peter Shokeir, for the excellent op-ed article in the Nov. 9 edition.
Many Canadians who, although not directly affected by what is happening in the Middle East, are still very concerned and desire to have a better understanding of this ongoing and seemingly unsolvable conflict. One by-product of this crisis that might be overlooked is the threat to free speech. This article brings it to our attention.
A book which has recently been published examines the Israel-Gaza conflict in some detail and
gives a fair and objective assessment from both the Jewish and Palestinian prospectives. The book is “The Wall Between: What Jews and Palestinians Don’t Want to Know About Each Other,” co-authored by Raja Khouri, a Canadian Palestinian, and Jeffrey Wilkinson, an American Jew working in Canada. They also address the issue of free- speech. Unfortunately, it is not yet readily available
If your readers are interested in hearing a discussion by these two authors, there is an opportunity to view a Zoom presentation with Khjouri and Wilkinson and the Moderator of the United Church of Canada who is hosting an on-line book club. Thursday, Nov. 30, 4:30 - 6 p.m. at Jasper United Church.
