Marmot Basin expects to fully operate for the 2024-25 season as its facilities remain undamaged by the huge out-of-control wildfire in Jasper National Park.
In a Wednesday (July 31) update, Jasper’s ski resort said it was “exceptionally fortunate” that its buildings and ski lifts have not been damaged.
“We continue to collaborate with Parks Canada, and are focusing on the support of our staff and community during this very difficult time and while the wildfire remains classified as out of control,” the statement said.
“Our intention is to fully operate for the 2024/25 season. We appreciate the support of all our loyal skiers and snowboarders and we can't wait to see all your friendly faces on the ski slopes!”
The winter season typically begins in November, but the opening day depends on the amount of snow on the ground.
“The spirit of Jasper endures, and much of Jasper has been saved as a result of the valiant efforts of those on the front lines,” Marmot Basin added.
“Many hotels and services have survived, and we know they will look forward to welcoming our skiers and snowboarders back with open arms this winter.”
Jasper National Park remains closed to the public and under an evacuation order.
Parks Canada has stated that tourists will likely not be able to visit the park until after Labour Day weekend at the earliest.
