OLDS — It’s show time for the Olds Grizzlys as they get ready for the annual Alberta Junior Hockey League’s (AJHL) Showcase tournament in Calgary.
The Showcase is a chance to interest scouts in the potential of players in the league.
The Grizzlys play their first game in the tournament Wednesday, Sept. 25, when they face off against the expansion Devon Xtreme.
Game time for anyone interested in making the trip is 11 a.m.
On Thursday, Sept. 26, the Grizzlys take on the Bonnyville Pontiacs in their second game of the tournament. The puck drops at 1:45 p.m. for that encounter.
This past weekend, the Grizzlys played two games on the road versus the Grande Prairie Storm – and it wasn’t pretty.
Friday night was the Grizzlys’ best result, when they lost 5-2.
Junshi Hideshima scored his first goal of the season at 7:24 of the first period, assisted by Bailey Shortall. That goal tied the game at 1-1.
The Storm scored the only goal of the second period to go up 2-1.
In the third period, Antonio Bevacqua scored his first goal of the season, assisted by Hideshima and Shortall.
However, the Storm scored three unanswered goals to seal the victory.
As of Monday, the Grizzlys had played four games. Their record stood at one win and three losses for two points, leaving them in the basement of the AJHL South Division, two points behind the Calgary Canucks.
