OLDS — The Olds Grizzlys made a flurry of deals just before the trade deadline on Jan. 10.
They traded 19-year-old forward Junshi Hideshima to the Camrose Kodiaks for 18-year-old defenceman Jack Bouck and future considerations.
Hideshima, an Edmonton product, collected 25 points in 32 games with the Grizzlys this season, including 12 goals.
Bouck, from West Kelowna, had one assist and 96 penalty minutes in 14 games with the Kodiaks.
The Grizzlys also obtained 18-year-old forward Brayden Schwartz from the Canmore Eagles in exchange for future considerations.
Schwartz, from Okotoks, scored one goal and picked up a total of three points in 19 games with the Eagles.
The Grizzlys also traded the playing rights of Mitch Patrick to the Calgary Canucks for future considerations. Patrick left the Grizzlys last month to play in the BCHL.
Grizzlys head coach Brad Tobin said the moves open the door for growth.
"Long-term, it gives some younger players the opportunity to develop for the next year," he wrote in a text.
The Olds Grizzlys made another trade, hours before the Jan. 10 trading deadline, dealing 20-year-old defenceman Tristan Taylor to the Fort MacMurray Oil Barons.
In return, the Grizzlys receive 18 year-old defenceman Lucas Schaefer and future considerations.
The trade was announced late in the evening of Jan. 9. The AJHL trade deadline is Jan. 10 at 4 p.m.
Taylor was named the Alberta Junior Hockey League’s Defensive Player of the Week just a few days before the trade.
During his time with the Grizzlys, Taylor racked up two goals and 10 points in 26 games
Schaefer, originally from Virginia, stands a 6’2” and weighs 209 pounds.
He started the season with the Calgary Canucks, where he scored one goal in five games.
Schaefer obtained four assists in 18 games while with the Oil Barons. He comes to the Grizzlys on a four-game point streak.
