Marking the occasion
Two milestones are being noted this week.
Not only was it Jasper National Park's 113th birthday on Monday, but it is also my anniversary as editor and publisher of the Fitz.
This week's edition marks one year since I took the helm of this newspaper - and what a year it has been.
Before my promotion I had been working part-time as a reporter here, and I was excited to step up and take on the responsibility. I knew I was signing up for a challenge - but never could have imagined the trials I have come to face over the last 12 months.
I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know you all, and deeply learning the intricacies and nuances of this community. It has been an honour to keep you informed and entertained, to celebrate your successes and listen to your debates.
Continuing to publish the Fitzhugh through the COVID-19 pandemic was a challenging experience, but an extremely rewarding one.
I sincerely thank you all for your contributions, both editorially and financially, that helped us through that time - and beyond.
Here’s to a bright, strong future for Jasper and the Fitzhugh, your community newspaper.
