My name is Ali Howat and I recently moved to Jasper and became a reporter at the Jasper Fitzhugh.
I am 23-years old and a single mom to a beautiful two-year old daughter.
I was born and raised in Edmonton, Alta.
I come from a very big family. I have an older sister and brother along with two younger sisters and brothers.
Growing up, my first love was photography and the arts. Ever since I can remember, I wanted to work with a newspaper and have the opportunity to share my worth with the world.
I went to an arts high school, Victoria School of the Arts, then went on to study art, photography and journalism in university at Grant MacEwan.
Approximately six weeks ago, I decided I wasn't getting anywhere that I wanted in the town I was in, so I decided to make a change and move myself to Jasper for a fresh start.
Living in Jasper has been one of the most amazing experiences I have had.
One of the things I love most about living in Jasper is the people. The community is so warm and welcoming and they make you feel like this is where you belong and where you're supposed to be.
Another thing I love about Jasper is the mountains, from the fresh mountain air to snowboarding any day I please and hiking up and enjoying the views from Old Fort Point. Who could get sick of that? Definitely not me.
Along with all of that, Jasper has been full of opportunities for me. A dream of mine has always been to work for a newspaper or magazine and have the opportunity to share my work.
Most recently, I got an opportunity to work as a reporter for the Jasper Fitzhugh, a newspaper here in town.
To me, this opportunity means everything to me.
Having the chance to tell my story, along with being able to bring other people’s stories to life, is an incredible feeling.
I hope I am able to continue being able to help share others stories while being able to showcase my writing and my photography.
And who knows? Maybe all that I accomplish here will help me grow and conquer more dreams.
