Happy New Year!

With this, our first edition of 2021, we are entering a new chapter for the Jasper Fitzhugh.

Before the holidays, you may have noticed our advertisements for a publisher/editor. I will soon be stepping away from the Fitzhugh on maternity leave, and with this issue I am passing the reins to my replacement, Peter Shokeir.

Peter has moved to Jasper and the Fitzhugh from Grande Prairie, where he served as an editor for the Grande Prairie Daily Herald-Tribune, along with three weekly publications. He has a strong background in local journalism and will be a great fit for this newspaper and community.

I feel I am leaving this publication in excellent hands as I embark on a new chapter in my own life: becoming a mother.

It is an exciting time, with new experiences just around the corner and many lessons to be learned - not unlike when I took on this role in September 2019. We have gone through a lot together over the past year and a half, especially during this wretched pandemic. There have been some difficult times but I felt privileged to be at the helm of this community newspaper through it all - keeping you informed and sharing your stories.

I am now looking forward to being involved in the community in a new way. Over the past four years I have gone from seasonal worker to settled Jasperite, to newspaper editor, and next to mom. All avenues of life in Jasper have brought me great joy and I truly love this little mountain town with a big heart.

Thank you for your kind feedback and words of support and encouragement during my time here.

Please join me in a warm welcome to Peter. He can now be reached at [email protected], and you can contact me at [email protected] for the next few weeks as we go through this transition period.

I hope 2021 brings you all good health and happiness, and that we can meet in person again soon!
