Youth in hospital with life-threatening injury after being shot in Northern Alberta

RCMP report there is an "unfolding event" happening in the North West quadrant of the city. The RCMP are asking residents to avoid the area.

A youth who was shot on a rural property near St. Albert on June 29 was taken to the hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries, according to an RCMP press release. 

Two youths were at a property on range road 255 near St. Albert when they were confronted by an individual with a firearm who then shot one of the youths, the release says. 

RCMP have charged Sturgeon County resident Jim Bregin, 84, with aggravated assault, using a firearm in the commission of an offence, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and intentional reckless discharge of a firearm. 

Bregin will appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Morinville on July 4.
