While RCMP cleared the scene Wednesday afternoon of an assault investigation at the Sundre Hotel, the investigation remains ongoing.
A witness to Tuesday's incident said an apparent second floor fight ended in the main floor cafe with a man and woman with stab wounds transported out by emergency services.
Sundre Hotel cafe staff members provided aid to the man and woman who each received stab wounds during an apparent fight on Tuesday afternoon, according to a supervisor at the restaurant.
RCMP were called to the hotel, located on Main Avenue and Centre Street, at about 4 p.m. March 12 where they found the injured parties.
The man was later transported by STARS and the woman by ground ambulance to a Calgary hospital.
Speaking at the scene Tuesday, Didsbury RCMP Staff Sgt. Stephen Browne said the injured parties received “traumatic, life-threatening” injuries.
The facility supervisor said she witnessed the injured parties come into the ground floor cafe after an incident on the second floor, where there are rooms for rent.
“It was a domestic upstairs and the only reason they ended up in the cafe is that she ran away from him and came in (to the cafe) and then we helped her,” said the supervisor, who asked not to be named. “She was in shock and she couldn’t really talk.
“And then he came in the door and collapsed on the floor. They had a fight in the room. They both had stab wounds.”
Staff members placed towels on the wounds of the man and the woman and called emergency services, she said.
Both parties had wounds on the upper body, she said.
Emergency crews and RCMP officers arrived promptly, she said, noting that victim services personnel and police were “very helpful” to the staff following the incident.
The injured woman rents a room upstairs and works at a nearby restaurant, she said.
Other staff members in the cafe declined to comment Wednesday afternoon.
Police remained at the scene until shortly after 1 p.m. Wednesday, with the hotel locked down until that time.
RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Gina Slaney said Wednesday that police do not expect to release any other information about the incident pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
“We don’t have anything to send out without interfering with the investigation,” Slaney said. “Nothing else is going to be sent out until we have something concrete.”
Police have not provided any information about the identify of the man and woman, nor about the injuries they suffered.
Should charges be laid or should either of the parties die, a release would be issued, she said.
RCMP officers from Sundre and several other detachments are taking part in the ongoing investigation, she said.
