Grass fire prompts Highway 1A closure east of Canmore

An out-of-control grass fire has prompted the closure of the Highway 1A between Range Road 60, near Ghost Lake and Morley Road.

ÎYÂRHE NAKODA – An out-of-control grass fire has prompted the closure of the Highway 1A between Range Road 60, near Ghost Lake, and Morley Road (Highway 1X) on Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 25).

East bound traffic is being re-routed on Highway 1X to the Trans-Canada Highway and west bound traffic is being turned around to Cochrane.

"Please avoid the area to allow first responders to safely respond," stated an RCMP press release.

Cochrane RCMP advised they are on scene and the fire department along with Volker Stevin are responding.

The fire is estimated to be four hectares in size and the cause is currently unknown.
