The election and plea for Chris Shearer, a 56 year-old Drumheller resident who is accused of assaulting an 80 year-old man at the Beiseker Centex gas station on January 5, will have to wait a while longer after an Airdrie court adjourned the matter to July 11.

Shearer’s case was adjourned by an Airdrie court on Thursday, May 30, making yet another adjournment in the case.

Shearer was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, robbery, and mischief after a physical altercation with another male at the Centex gas station in Beiseker on January 5 at around 8 a.m., according to police reports. Shearer told police at the time that he may have injured the man.

The victim was an 80-year old man later identified online simply as "Bob," who was admitted to hospital with serious injuries. He was released shortly after to recover at home. After the assault, Shearer allegedly broke the victim's vehicle window and stole his keys, as seen on gas station surveillance footage.

An RCMP investigation indicated that the assault was the result of a road rage incident that occurred on the Highway that then led to the incident that occurred at the Beiseker Centex.

The adjournment means that the court will have to wait a little longer to hear Shearer’s plea of guilty or not guilty.
