It didn't take long for the 250 athletes to settle down to business, as the first arrows of the 2024 World Archery Field Championships were flying just hours after Monday afternoon's opening ceremonies in Lac La Biche.
Competitors from 28 nations around the world were on the trails of the Herb Erickson Archery Lanes on Tuesday, taking aim at an array of 10-point targets placed along trails at varying distances. The archery park is the home of the Lakeland Archers. This is the second time the Lac La Biche-based club and its president Rene Schaub have hosted a World Archery event.
Qualifying ends Wednesday
Schaub told Lakeland This Week that the first two days of competition are the qualifying rounds where the 16 individual archers with the highest scores and the top eight teams with the best scores will advance to the elimination rounds taking place on Thursday and Friday.

From there, Schuab explained, the best four individuals and four teams make their way to the finals, taking place at the Lac La Biche Golf and Country Club's driving range on Saturday and Sunday.
