CALLING LAKE — Residents and campers at McFarlane Beach on Calling Lake are being advised to avoid entering the water to swim or wade due to elevated levels of fecal bacteria effective immediately.
Ingestion of the water with the current bacteria levels poses risk of gastrointestinal illnessness, and skin, ear, and eye infections can be caused from contact with the water.
Visitors and locals are reminded to never drink or cook with untreated water directly from any lake or reservoir at any time. Fecal bacteria and other water-borne organisms can cause diarrhea and vomiting.
Water quality at McFarlane Beach will continue to be monitored by Alberta Health Services Environmental Public Health officers. The advisory will remain in place until further notice.
