Axe wielding man arrested by RCMP

An 18-year-old man was arrested by RCMP after allegedly using an axe to threaten people and smash car windows at Maligne Lake on July 9. According to police, officers received a high priority call around 3:30 p.m.

An 18-year-old man was arrested by RCMP after allegedly using an axe to threaten people and smash car windows at Maligne Lake on July 9.

According to police, officers received a high priority call around 3:30 p.m. for a highly intoxicated man in the Maligne Lake parking lot.

Once on scene, police were told that a bystander was able to take the axe away from the suspect and that he was being detained by multiple people.

The suspect was arrested and taken into custody without any incident.

Quinten Delaney Campbell, of Rycroft, Alta., has been charged with one count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, one count of mischief under $5,000 and two counts of uttering threats to cause death.

None of the allegations have been proven in court.

The Jasper RCMP would like to advise the public that it is not at risk as this was an isolated incident.
