There's a five-way race to be the next elected member of the 45th Canadian Parliament for the Yellowhead riding in the April 28 federal election.

The Albertan offered candidates an opportunity to submit a bio and outline policy priorities while also answering two questions: First, what do you think the Canadian government should be prepared to do in response to the ongoing threat of U.S. tariffs? And second, would you support or speak out against any suggestions for Alberta to separate or become the 51st state?

All five candidates submitted responses which were edited to fit the specified word count.

Dale Heath, Christian Heritage Party

I was born and raised in Canmore and have always lived here. I graduated in 1973 and began working at the Lafarge cement plant in 1975. The majority of my 41 years of employment were spent as an electrician/instrumentation technician.

I was baptized Catholic in 1979 and married my wife Valerie in 1980. I assisted my wife in establishing a ProLife Ministry in our local church as we believe in the sanctity of life from conception to natural death.

As my faith progressed I began to notice that the Judeo-Christian values and principles our country was founded upon were being eroded and ignored.

I later discovered the Christian Heritage Party. I believe that the CHP is a gift and a blessing to all Canadians because we love our country and its citizens.  The CHP platform is designed to benefit all Canadians.

Canadians have a federal political party to vote for that understands the Charter of Rights and Freedoms' preamble- "Canada is founded on principles that recognize the supremacy of God and the Rule of Law" - and the great heritage this preamble upholds.

Canadians can vote their faith and conscience and not have to compromise what they believe in and live by.  I encourage all citizens to please support the CHP for the good of our great country Canada!

The CHP believes Canada should calm down in response to U.S. tariffs. The loud rhetoric and threats of dollar-for-dollar tariffs will only raise prices and make matters worse for Canadian citizens.

We need to improve domestic markets and increase domestic processing of bulk exports. We may need to encourage greater diversification into crops that can be marketed in Canada...and find new markets abroad.

Also we must not be distracted by this issue and forget about the previous leadership policies that have harmed Canada and our economy.

The CHP is not in favour of Alberta leaving Canada but sympathizes with the province. The federal leadership has disrespected Albertans far too long.

The CHP would end the unfair transfer payments and use that huge amount of money for Alberta.

The CHP also supports the pipeline projects to transfer oil and gas across the country. The CHP would end the carbon tax as well.
