The Okotoks Public Library is celebrating Freedom to Read Week, which runs from Feb. 23 to March 1.
Freedom to Read Week is an annual event that encourages Canadians to think about and reaffirm their commitment to intellectual freedom.
The library has set up a Banned Book Garden, a space where visitors can uncover the stories behind banned books. All they have to do is lift the flap at the centre of each flower to learn why these books were challenged.
There's also a Banned Book Scavenger Hunt that allows visitors to hunt down the banned books hidden throughout the library to claim a pin or lollipop as a prize.
The library is encouraging people to stand up for their right to read by exploring challenged books such as Becoming by Michelle Obama or Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris by Anthony Fabian.
