A little boy, dressed warmly in big snow boots, pants, a winter coat and a cute little toque to match darted along Patricia Street ahead of me last Monday.
“Are you sure you’re still warm enough,” asked his Grandma.
“Yep!” he replied, with a gorgeous, confident little smile.
We were slowly approaching the intersection of Miette Ave. and the little boy began to speed up.
“Watch out, it’s slippery,” said his Grandma.
Telling her he’d be “okay” he quickly indicated that he was running towards a big snowman nestled on the corner in front of Earl’s.
Realizing what the boy was after, Grandma asked, “look it’s number three snowman. Can you see number four?”
For a split moment the boy noticed there was another snowman on the median of Miette Ave but nonetheless kept his eyes squarely focused on the one just in front of him.
Now, I’m not a little boy, and I certainly wasn’t dressed in the cute little outfit that he was. But, I think my eyes may just have lit up the same way his did when he saw the first snowman on that glorious Monday.
All my friends may have been riding the awesome powder at Marmot, and I was simply walking to an interview, but at least I got to see the snowmen.
I am certain that it wasn’t just the cute little kids (and the weird Aussies that still delight in seeing snowfall), because the Fitzhugh has had numerous bear hugs for the mystery snowman maker.
Thankfully, curiosity only kills cats otherwise I’d be dead wondering who the builder(s) of the snowman is?
A drunk teen just looking for some fun in the wee hours of the morning?
Another crazed Aussie that’s never made a snowman before and just got a little carried away?
Maybe it was an insomniac who was looking for ways to pass the hours by, or wear themselves out before they eventually went to sleep?
Perhaps it was a winter loving individual who just wanted to see peoples faces light up as they walked the streets on a busy Monday morning?
Either way, I wish I knew who it was! And, I wish they would do it every week!
I know who it wasn’t, and that is a certainty. It wasn’t the mean snowman killer – why did you knock my smile maker down? It boggles my mind that someone would do that! The snowmen were wonderful additions to our winter wonder landscape.
Next time we get a big dump of snow in town I hope the mystery snowman builder comes back to life and builds some more again.
May I request you build one just outside the Fitzhugh office so I can see it every time I walk in and out? Nothing like a Jasper the Snowman to make me smile on a cold winters day!
Cheers to snowman builders! Feel free to send me an
