Fitz: What’s the best thing about the 24 hour race?
Derek Anderson: Seeing how far the body can go. There’s no sleep, that’ll be hard and then no food basically too. Dealing with all that, seeing how I handle it, that’ll be interesting.
Fitz: What’s the worst thing?
Derek Anderson: The no sleep. That’ll be the worst because I do enjoy sleeping.
Fitz: What sort of training have you been doing?
Derek Anderson: A lot more road biking. Nothing too structured, but I’ve just been getting out on the bike and the road and going for long trips. Just trying to build up my endurance.
Fitz: What are you doing to win?
Derek Anderson: I am not going to win this thing. This is about perseverance and myself.
Fitz: What’s the best thing about the 24 hour race?
Chris Peel: The beginning and the finish.
Fitz: What’s the worst thing?
Chris Peel: Everything else in between pretty much. Racing at 3 a.m. when you’re exhausted and want to sleep, that’ll be pretty hard too. We’ll see how I’m doing at 22 hours.
Fitz: What sort of training have you been doing?
Chris Peel: “Nothing extremely organized. Just some longer rides... I rode down to Radium for a really long ride recently... It was kinda crazy, I left around 2:30 a.m. There were people getting out of the bars, just looking at me like ‘What are you doing?!!’
Fitz: What are you doing to win?
Chris Peel: I’m not gonna win. It’s not really about that at all. If I can finish in the top half that’d be nice, we’ll see. I’ve done the race before, but in a team and you finish up while all these other guys are still out there. You just kinda feel like a sissy. You’re getting something to eat, you’re out at the bar, it doesn’t feel right. |
