Missing the Fitzhugh in the Robson Valley

Dear Editor,

It is with disappointment that I see the Fitzhugh is not being delivered to Valemount anymore.

People in Valemount and area (Dunster and McBride) shop in Jasper, work in Jasper, attend shows in Jasper, eat in your restaurants, use your recreation centre and swimming pool, hike and ski on your trails, ski at Marmot Basin, advertise in your paper, run in your races, attend your ski swap and craft fairs, go to your museum, and are some of the artists at your JAG shows. Musicians from Dunster play in your legion and other venues there. And remember how locals enjoyed the Farmers’ Market last summer, with growers from the Robson Valley selling their beautiful produce?

Jasper, being in a national park, is a town all taxpayers in Canada financially support, and neighbouring communities want to benefit from its beauty, services, and events too. The Fitzhugh is our only source of regular communication about Jasper National Park, which is just over an hour drive for us from Valemount. (Our local papers are very good, but do not provide much Jasper news.)

Many people in Valemount and area have a connection with Jasper, and many people here also just enjoy an outing to Jasper, perhaps for the above reasons, or other reasons, that they read about in the Fitzhugh. We are valued readers and remember, every visit to Jasper we usually spend money!

To the new owners, please bring back the Fitzhugh. It is very well read here by locals and tourists, and even has a dedicated column about Valemount (Caribou Joe).

Devoted readers,

Beth Russell, Sharon Anderson and

Gordon Anderson, Valemount, B.C.
