Finding full-time, well paying work in Jasper can often be easier said than done. It can take years to work your way up from your first seasonal job to a full-time career. 

It’s almost like a form of initiation, to see just how committed you are to the Jasper lifestyle and community.

Taste of the Town postponed indefinitely

For many years, the iconic Taste of the Town has been the key fundraiser for the Jasper Yellowhead Museum and Archives’ operating budget. Unfortunately in the past few years it has become increasingly difficult for local restaurants and hotels to participate during the Jasper in January schedule as it is already such a busy time. So, last year the popular event changed its date, separating itself from the festival.

Roof fund nearly halfway there

Museum volunteers went door to door and blitzed the town to garner donations for its ailing roof last month and to date $32,370 has been raised.

Humans are but a speck in time.

Mountains are timeless. They are a silent witness of those trails rarely travelled and those who ventured upon them. 

Council voted to accept the 2013 operating budget, which includes a 4.72 per cent municipal tax increase, at their March 2 meeting.

The total budget sum came in at $13,352,484. This total doesn’t include the solid waste fee hike, which is still being determined by Parks Canada. 

The high school’s sustainability class is heading to Slave Lake this month in search of the community’s youth voice.

From April 18-21, six Jasper students will be interviewing their peers, as well as Slave Lake teachers, fire fighters, reporters and developers about the redevelopment of the community in the aftermath of its devastating 2011 fire. Each of those interviews will be recorded to later be turned into a 10-minute documentary that the community can use and learn from.
