Get your chaps, spurs and lipstick ready, the Jasper Rodeo Queens contest is gearing up for this summer’s Jasper Heritage Rodeo. The Fitzhugh is profiling local girls who hope to take the crown starting May 16 when the crowning and horsemanship events are scheduled. Two of this year’s contestants are from Hinton. The rodeo will kick off on August 17. More details can be found at www.jasperheritagerodeo.com.

RaeAnne Hall

A Hinton native, RaeAnne Hall, 19, says  she has always loved Jasper and wants to  serve Jasper as Rodeo Queen.

“Growing up in Hinton, Jasper was a big part of my childhood. There were so many opportunities out there and I would really just like this opportunity to give back to the Jasper Community,” said Hall. “I’d love to be an ambassador for Jasper. It would be an honour.”

Hall has a long, deep history of being very engaged with her community.

In Grade 10 she began horseback riding, pursuing a lifelong love of horses, participating in gymkhanas and as a member of the Chinook Riders Drill Team. By Grade 11, she claimed the titles of Miss River Valley Riding Association Queen 2007 and Miss Northern Alberta Gymkhana Queen 2007.

After graduating, she attended the University of Alberta; studying to become a history teacher.

She has also volunteered with Hinton’s Harry Collinge High School (HCHS) Yearbook Committee, the HCHS Year end Video Committee, the HCHS Students’ Union, Students 4 Change, the Hinton Food Bank, the River Valley Riding Association, Safewalk, and On Campus, an inclusive program at the University of Alberta for students with special needs.

A self-proclaimed nerd, Hall keeps busy by riding with the Chinook Riders Drill Team as former co-captain, the RVRA Gymkhana Club, playing competitive dodgeball, intramural soccer, pilates, weight training, yoga, and recently, kickboxing.

Daryl Foisy

Daryl is a 17-year-old student from Hinton. She is graduating this year and embarking on further studies at the University of Alberta and ultimately focusing on a career as a paediatric oncologist. As an honour roll student, Daryl spends a great deal of time studying but does enjoy spare time swimming and spending quality time with family and friends. With such a busy life, it is amazing that Daryl still has time to volunteer at school and different town facilities.
