photo361.jpgOne of Jasper’s favourite heavy bands are coming back together for one more show. Sonance will be playing at the Legion on Saturday night to celebrate the release of their final CD.

“The Shack Recordings” is a collection of songs recorded from 2008 to 2009, along with one song “Longlist” which was written by guitarist/singer Lee Waters as a tribute celebratory song for Simon O’Mahony who was the bands lead vocalist until he passed away on February 7, 2009.

“Lee had written a song that I wanted to record... so we did that over the last summer,” explained drummer Jamie McCardle.

Though the evening comes in time for the year anniversary of O’Mahony’s passing, drummer Jamie McCardle said the evening is a night of celebration and thanks, rather than a memorial.

“It’s a giant gathering of friends, we’ll play a little bit, have a good time,” McCardle said. “I wanted to make it about all of us, about what we shared together, and to be able to turn around and give back to our friends as a way of saying thank you.”

Four of the songs on the CD include O’Mahony on them. All were written and recorded after the bands second and last album to date, “Road Home.”

“Then they just kind of sat by the wayside for a while,” the drummer said.

In order to say thank you to their supportive fans, and town, the four piece will be spinning the CD for all to hear, as well as playing songs from their whole library live. It’s been more than two years since the band has played together.

“We’ll listen to the CD, and we’ll go around sharing stories... and play songs off the CD live,” added McCardle.

With two players, Waters and Fabe Valcourt, guitarist, now living outside of Jasper, rehearsing for the event has been a little different.

“It could be a little rusty, but I think for the most part – to me it’s more of a way to say thank you to all our friends that gave us so much support, just to give them an extra CD to listen to and bring back memories for everyone else.”

“All of the guys are super excited... we have a pretty unique chemistry and when we start playing together it tends to fall back into place pretty easily,” he added.

McCardle also stressed that the evening was not a private party, and that the entire town was welcome.

“We got lots of support from Jasper, and I would welcome anybody that likes the harder music.”

The show will start at 10 p.m. with doors opening at 8.30 p.m. tickets will cost $5 at the door to help the band cover their recording costs.
