Jasper RCMP is still searching for 26-year-old Devon Brock Moldowan after he disappeared from town on Sat, June 13.

After being alerted to Moldowan’s disappearance last weekend, the Jasper RCMP began a search of popular areas for the young man.

While posters were placed around town on Sunday, the RCMP failed to alert local media to the missing person and consequently there was no report in last week’s edition of the Fitzhugh.

RCMP issued a press release to media outlets on Wednesday, five days following the disappearance.

“Basically what happened, we were trying to put the missing persons posters together and coordinate the search, and it got lost in the paper,” said Cst. Chad Benko. “It just got mixed up with all the other paper work we were working on at the same time,” he added.

Notwithstanding the paper confusion, police are hopeful that the young man will be found - with the public’s assistance. “We haven’t given up hope that he is somewhere out there,” said Cst. Nick Zouroudias “We have circulated numerous amounts of photos and the public has also helped us out by doing the same.”

Moldowan did not tell his girlfriend where he was going and he left his bank cards at home on Saturday afternoon.

“It would just be whatever he had on him,” said Benko.

Without access to a car, police are assuming the 26-year-old walked or hitch-hiked somewhere, but possibly not far as there were a couple sightings in town early last week.

“We did get a couple of reports of possible sightings around town, but we haven’t been able to confirm (them),” Benko explained.

Police begin a search immediately when a disappearance is considered out of the ordinary. Athabasca Falls, Old Fort Point, Maligne Canyon were all searched, said Benko.

However, without a direction of travel, the police are left waiting for the public to tell them where he was headed.

“Because we don’t have a direction of travel - he could have walked any direction or hitch hiked in any direction so with the size of the park, we can’t physically search the whole park looking for him.”

Regardless of the direction he went, there has been no indication that there was anything suspicious with the case.

Other than one anonymous tip, which turned out to be nothing, police have had no further information on the case since last week.

If you’ve seen Moldowan or if you have any information regarding this case, RCMP ask you to contact them at 780-852-4421 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
